Dot NAME Domain Names

Started in 2001, the Dot NAME universal TLD is the sole TLD supposed to be for personal sites only. These domain names can be personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other titles people are famous by. At first, only 3rd-level registrations were allowed, so if you desired to acquire john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and second-level registrations were also allowed. Existing third-level names remained active.
